New Delhi, April 15: Surendra Matiala, a local BJP leader, was fatally shot by two masked miscreants on Friday night in his office on Matiala Road in the Bindapur police station area of Delhi’s Dwarka district.

Ram Singh, the cousin of the deceased stated that at about 7:30 p.m., two masked miscreants entered the workplace and began firing indiscriminately.

Cousin Ram Singh said, “Around 7:30 pm, two unidentified miscreants entered the office with helmets in hand and suddenly they started firing indiscriminately, the miscreants fired several rounds, out of which 4-5 bullets hit Surendra. After committing the crime, the miscreants fled from the spot”.

“The people present inside the office helped admit Surendra to the hospital where the doctor declared him brought dead,” he added.

Four persons were seated inside the office, according to Cousin Ram Singh, when the incident happened.

“A total of 4 people were present inside the office when the miscreants carried out the incident in which I and two other people were sitting and talking while Surendra Matiala was watching TV. By the time I could understand anything, Surendra Matiala had already been shot,” he said.

In this regard, some locals claimed that Surendra Matiala, a local leader for the BJP, had a very positive reputation in the area and that the locals had a hard time accepting this.

A local stated, “The image of Surendra Matiala was very good in the area and some people of the area cannot digest that so someone decided to shoot and kill him”.

After receiving the information, police officers arrived at the scene and said that they were looking into the situation.

“CCTV camera footage installed around the office is being scrutinized to identify the miscreants,” the official said.

Prior to this, Dwarka’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsha Vardhan stated that the motivation was unclear but that all potential reasons were being looked into.

“Multiple teams have been formed to catch the accused. At this stage, the motive is not clear. We are investigating from all angles said,” he said.
