Ranchi, March 2: The BJP criticized the Hemant Soren government on the law-and-order issue of Jharkhand and said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren should introspect about the worst kind of policing in Sahibganj district which is his home constituency.
During the budget session of the assembly on Wednesday, the former minister and BJP MLA Amar Kumar Bauri delivered a fiery speech and left the treasury bench numbed. Bauri sounded like reading out a memo of the incompetence of the government.
Raising the issue of the alleged custodial death of Debu Turi, a suspect of vehicle showroom theft case, Bauri said that no action was taken against accused officials.
“Turi was a Dalit who was detained and repeatedly beaten by police even in front of his uncle. The Chief Minister was in Sahibganj when he was detained and beaten. Sahibganj is the home district of Hemant Soren. No government official visited the family of the victim. No action was taken against the accused officials. Not even suspension,” Bauri said.
Bauri said that it was not the first time when such disturbing news of police atrocities and poor law and order was reported from Sahibganj. He cited the case of the suspected suicide of cop Rupa Tirkey which the CBI is investigating.
“This is the situation of law and order in Sahibganj so you can imagine the rest of Jharkhand,” he said. Bauri said that the cases of atrocities against Dalit and women have increased. “A minor girl was raped under Nimiyaghat police station area in Giridih. Sanju Pradhan was set on fire alive in front of police in Simdega. At Domchanch in the Koderma district, a Dalit girl was raped and thrown in the well. But somehow, she survived, but the district police are trying to hush up the case,” he said.
He slammed the government for blatantly following the appeasement policy. “Rupesh Pandey was murdered in Hazaribagh. 27 persons were named as accused but the main accused has yet not been arrested. His mother is crying for justice. But instead of catching criminals, the government suspended internet services for four days,” he said.
“You hate anything which is associated with Hindi, Hindu and the sanatan sanskriti, ” he said.
