Dhanbad, July 19: A contractual labourer named Rakesh Mandal got critically injured in a blast in the public sector unit Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited (HURL) Sindri plant.
Rakesh was admitted to Asian Jalan Hospital in Dhanbad after the incident. He has a major injury on his face.
HURL’s human resources (HR) officer Vikrant Kumar told the media that the incident occurred on the evening of Monday.
The victim, a contractual labourer of Diplex outsourcing company, was working near the lift of demineralising treatment plant with a gas cylinder. After finishing the work, he left the gas cylinder’s pin unlocked which caused a sudden blast.
Rakesh was immediately sent to Asian Jalan Hospital where on Tuesday morning doctors said his condition was still critical.
After getting the information about the incident, local people thronged to the HURL plant in large numbers and protested against the security lapses on the part of management.
The newly appointed HURL Group General Manager (GGM) Dipten Roy is out of the station (reportedly in Delhi).
HURL MD to visit Sindri on July 21
HURL’s new managing director (MD) cum chief executive officer (CEO) Srinivas Mudgerikar is scheduled to visit the Sindri HURL unit on July 21 for the first time.
It is being said that the MD is arriving in Sindri on the directive of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) following complaints of the FCI VSS Employees Association which has held an apathetic attitude of the management responsible for the delay in the operation of HURL’s production.
Association’s president Sewa Singh, who had written a complaint letter to the PMO, alleged that HURL Sindri which has come up in place of closed Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCI Ltd), said it is a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi despite going two years late. In lack of stable management, nowadays major incidents occur frequently in plants which trigger agitation and gherao of local people.
“It is ironic that the MD has never visited the Sindri plant so far while he has visited Gorakhpur and Barauni frequently. Even the secretary and joint secretary of the Fertilizer ministry have not visited here,” said Sewa Singh.
