Jamshedpur, Dec 21: A three-day block closure will begin at Jamshedpur plant of Tata Motors here from December 23.
The Jamshedpur plant of the auto major produces heavy commercial vehicles like trucks, trailers, tippers, buses and other multi-axle vehicles.
The company will remain shut from December 23 to 25, as per an internal communication issued by the plant head Vishal Badshah on Tuesday.
The company will reopen on December 27 as December 26 is a weekly holiday being Sunday.
A senior functionary of Tata Motors Workers’ Union confirmed the block closure saying that it is a routine closure undertaken for necessary maintenance activities.
The workmen affected by block closure shall avail their privilege or casual leave for 50 per cent of the day and for the remaining half of the period they shall be paid their normal wages/salary by the company.
The internal communication further said that a separate notice would be issued for the employees who would be required to work during the block closure by the concerned division or department head.
Company sources said the three-day closure was also aimed at preventing unnecessary build up of inventory in the company as well as at dealers’ end.
Officials of Tata Motors Workers’ Union said the production of commercial vehicles has come down considerably due to the slump in the auto sector.
Such block closure was taken twice earlier this month. Union sources hinted at another such block closure at the end of this month.
Production in Tata Motors ancillary units at Adityapur in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district would also be severely affected due to the block closure for three days.
Union officials said that the work order of the company has come down considerably prompting the company to undertake frequent block closures.
