Jamshedpur, Oct 25: Vehicular communication on Dimna road in Mango remained disrupted for over two hours as a section of people belonging to the Sikh community set up a blockade near Ulidih thana this afternoon.
Led by the Sikh leader Shailendra Singh, the protesters were demanding action against an erring assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and an apology from him.
The protesters lifted the blockade after the ASI, Pradeep Kumar apologised and the senior SP, M Tamil Vanan had assured them over the phone to take necessary action against the police official in question after a probe.
The trouble cropped up after a police team from the Ulidih thana had picked up a man, Kulvinder Singh on Sunday night while trying to nab a loot case accused by raiding a house on Road No 5 in Sankhosai under Ulidih thana. Kulvinder (45) is a resident of Ghatsila and brother-in-law of the accused who was absconding.
After the information regarding Kulvinder’s picking up spread among the Sikh community, the head of the Mango Gurudwara, Bhagwaan Singh reached the Ulidih thana accompanied by his supporters. At the police station, the ASI Pradeep Kumar who had picked up Kulvinder had roughed up Bhagwaan Singh. Then only those accompanied Bhagwaan Singh reacted sharply and resorted to staging a blockade in front of the Ulidih thana on Dimna road.
Kulvinder Singh had visited his in-laws house at Sankosai on Sunday and had been picked up by the police in the night and had to pass the whole night in the lock-up.
The Sikh leader Shailendra Singh said “nobody is stopping the police to arrest a wanted person. But what is the point of picking up a guest instead of the accused person.”
OC, Ulidih thana, Meghnath Mandal said the vehicular communication on the Dimna road has been resumed after the blockade was lifted. He pointed out that a senior officer will look into whether the ASI was at fault.
