Jamshedpur, Sept 14: The bodies of the drowning teenagers were recovered from the Subernarekha river along the landmark picnic Kanderbera spot under the Chandil thana area on Thursday afternoon.
The bodies of Kunal Kumar Singh and Vinayak Kumar alias Shubham were fished out from a deep water zone in the Subernarekha by the professional divers sent by Tata Steel and the Jamshedpur police.
After the bodies were recovered within a gap of 20 minutes, the first one to be that of Kunal, the police shifted them to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem.
As the divers were busy searching for the bodies by diving into the deep water, the family members of both victims were waiting anxiously, perhaps expecting them (the divers) to return empty-handed. But as soon as Kunal’s body was found, members of both the families broke down, wailing and crying at the river bank.
A resident of Subhash Colony in Mango, Kunal was the only child of his parents whereas Shubham, a resident of Bara Flat area at Agrico in Sidhgora was the younger son of his parents.
Kunal and Shubham, both 17-year-olds, were undergoing a vocational course in the KMPM Inter-college. The duo had bunked off from their classes on Wednesday and had instead gone over to Kanderbera by riding a Scooty. They drowned in the river while taking a bath in the river unaware of the fact that the stretch where they took the plunge was a dangerous and deep-water zone.
