Jamshedpur, Nov 18: The body which was found in a sack at Telco on Thursday has been identified.
The body was that of a 35-year-old woman and was identified as Varsha Patel, a resident of South Park in Bistupur.
Varsha was missing from her rented house since the night of November 11, leading the woman’s kin to lodge a verbal missing report with the Bistupur thana on November 16.
OC, Telco thana, Ajay Kumar said the body was identified by the murder victim’s younger sister Jaya at the MGM medical college mortuary. He said the police had started an exercise to get the body identified and had circulated the information about the body to the police stations across the district.
“Within a few hours, the Bistupur police contacted us as a middle-aged woman was missing from Bistupur since the past one week. Subsequently, the body was identified by the murdered victim’s sister in the afternoon, ” said the OC.
According to the police, Varsha was married to Vishal Mehta of Kadma four years ago. As the victim’s husband allegedly tortured her for dowry, she had left her in-law’s house a year later and had started staying at a rented house in South Park.
According to sources, Varsha was staying at the rented house along with a youth. She had also come in contact with a police man, presently posted at the Sakchi thana.
After the body was identified, the Bistupur police has set up a team and has started investigation into the reason behind the murder of Varsha Patel.
Notably, a sack containing the body was found from near Telco gurudwara this morning.
