Bokaro boy is Jharkhand State Open FIDE Rating Chess champion

Jamshedpur, March 20: The Jharkhand State Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2023 concluded here today.

The meet was organised by the East Singhbhum District Chess Association (ESDCA) affiliated to All Jharkhand Chess Association (AJCA). The event was oganised in collaboration with Tata Steel at JRD Tata Sports Complex.

In this eight round tournament Sikandar Anis from Bokaro district clinched the top honour and became the champion of Jharkhand State Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2023.

He was awarded cash prize of Rs. 21,000 along with the champion’s trophy.

He scored 7.0 points out of possible 8 points. In the final round he drew with Rohan Vijay Shandilya of East Singhbhum. Shandilya secured second place and awarded cash prize of Rs 15,000.

The event was inaugurated on March 15 by Vijay Shankar, IPS, City SP of Jamshedpur at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in presence of Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sport, Tata Steel, CEO Jamshedpur Football Club and Vice President East Singhbhum District Chess Association (ESDCA), Vijay Kumar Singh, Vice President of All Jharkhand Chess Association, and N.K. Tiwary, General Secretary (ESDCA).

This tournament was recognized by AJCA, AICF and FIDE. This was an International Rating Tournament under the Event Code. No. 319149/JHAR/2023.

The tournament witnessed participation from 183 players from 10 districts of Jharkhand. While 50 players were rated, 133 were unrated. The districts included East Singhbhum, Ranchi, Seraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Dumka, Lohardaga. Thirty women participants took part in the event.

The 69-year old Vijay Kumar Singh from Hazaribagh was the  senior most participant and the youngest was just over five year old  Atharv Adesara of East Singhbhum.

Jayant Kumar Bhuyan was the chief srbiter of the tournament. The event added another feather in the cap of Jamshedpur as one of the fast developing chess centre in India.
