Dhanbad, Dec 15: At least five electricians were reportedly injured in a transformer blast at Bokaro Siyaljori area-based Vedanta Electrosteel Plant, around 10 km away from the district headquarters on Thursday morning.
Four of the five injured were identified as Pranjivan Majhi, Anil, Saheb Bhuiyan and Palash Pal. The injured were immediately admitted to the Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) in Bokaro Steel City where the condition of the two is said to be critical.
The mobile numbers of the concerned officials of the Vedanta Electrosteel plant were found switched off when tried to be contacted.
Though the plant officials are yet to make an official statement, sources inside the plant said that the incident occurred around 9 am. A snag had appeared in the 220-volt power supply system of the plant. The electricians were repairing the snag when all of sudden, the transformer blew up.
Chas SDPO Purushotam Kumar Singh, under whom the jurisdiction falls, when contacted admitted to having received the report of the incident. “But a detail report is awaited,” he added.
The senior officials of the district administration and team of Siyaljori police station have reached the incident site and begun an investigation into the matter.
