Ranchi, June 21: Film actress Ameesha Patel, who was expected to appear before a city court in a case of cheque bouncing today, did not turn up citing her urgent appearance in a show at Mohali as the reason behind her non-appearance.
The court of judicial magistrate D.N.Shukla took strong exception to her non-appearance when her advocate appeared in the court seeking time for his client and Patel’s opponent raised an objection over it. However, the court granted the last opportunity to the Bollywood star directing her to appear in person in court on July 10.
A cheque-bouncing case is going on against Patel. A city-based film producer Ajay Kumar Singh had filed the case after the cheque Patel had issued in his name bounced.
Singh had got the cheque in lieu of the Rs 2.5 crore he had given to Patel for the production of a film, Desi Magic, in 2017. The situation came when Patel took the money but neither worked nor returned money despite repeated reminders.
