Thane: The Bombay High Court is set to urgently hear a petition on Wednesday filed by the father of Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case, who was killed in a police encounter on Monday evening. The postmortem report revealed that the 24-year-old had a single bullet wound to the left side of his head.
Shinde’s father has approached the court, challenging the encounter that led to his son’s death. The police claim that Shinde was shot during a confrontation with officers. Meanwhile, public reactions to the incident have been mixed, with some local leaders offering rewards to the officers involved.
A day after the encounter, celebrations erupted in Badlapur, with Sena’s Kalyan chief announcing a ₹51,000 reward for Assistant Inspector Nilesh More, who was injured during the operation. Similarly, MNS’s Thane and Palghar chief announced rewards for More and his colleague Sanjay Shinde, the officer who fired the shot. Sweets were distributed at Badlapur station, marking public support for the encounter.
The court’s decision is expected to address growing concerns about the legality of the police action, as Shinde’s death continues to stir public debate.
