New Delhi, March 22: Indian Boxer Nitu guarantees India’s first medal at IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships after defeating Japan’s Madoka Wada in the minimum weight division category.

The Japanese fighter Madoka Wada was defeated by the 22-year-old boxer in the second round after she shown such overwhelming dominance over her. At this point, Nitu Ghanghas is guaranteed at least a bronze medal.

Notably, this was Nitu Ghanghas’s maiden medal at the World Boxing Championships. Nitu has knocked out opponents in each of her three victories in New Delhi, displaying her superior domination.

Meanwhile, Manisha Maoun (57 kg) was denied a medal on Wednesday in New Delhi after losing the quarterfinal. In the round of the last eight, she was defeated 4-1 by Amina Zadani through a split decision.

As their matches are scheduled for later on Wednesday, six Indian fighters, including the current world champion Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Sakshi Choudhary (52 kg), Jaismine Lamboria (60 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg), Saweety Boora (81 kg), and Nupur Sheoran (+81 kg), will try to advance to the semi-final rounds.

At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year, Nitu was the one who started the Indian team’s account. The adolescent fighter from Haryana gave her father credit for helping her succeed professionally. Nitu’s father, Notaby, has been accompanying the young fighter to important competitions while juggling his other professional obligations.
