Boy, who lost mother in 2009, gets Rs 5 lakh compensation at Lok Adalat in Ranchi

Ranchi, Feb.11: Kushagra Kamal alias Karthik, whose mother died on January 9, 2009 following torture of her in-laws when he was one year old, today got Rs 5 lakh compensation under Jharkhand Victim Compensation Act from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

This happened during the National Lok Adalat organized by the DLSA in the civil court premises in which more than 76000 cases were taken up. Not only Karthik, as many as 11 like him got the compensation as the authority distributed Rs 46 lakh as compensation amount. Among the 11 recipients of compensation included.

A message by the DLSA informed this giving detail of Karthi’s case.

“Prem Kumar Khatri married his daughter Payal Khatri to Ravindra Kumar on 10.02.2007 as per Hindu rites and customs. From the said marriage Karthik alias Kushagra Kamal was born on 05.06.2008. After marriage, all in-laws started demanding cash and a bike worth Rs one lakh as dowry. When the demand was not fulfilled they started torturing Payal Khatri in different ways. Finally, on January 9, 2009 they entered into a criminal conspiracy and set Payal on fire, causing grievous injuries on her body. The victim underwent treatment in several hospitals and finally died,” the message explaining the particular case read.

On the occasion, the settlement amount of more than Rs 64 crore was also recovered in various cases. The cases included pre-litigation and litigation besides execution of promises.

As many as 23 benches of judicial magistrates and 19 benches for executive magistrates were constituted for the purpose.

Judicial Commissioner Arun Kumar Rai, family court principal judge Rashikesh Kumar, motor accident claim tribunal president officer Manish, DLSA secretary Rakesh Ranjan, Ranchi District Bar Association (RDBA) president Sambhu Prasad Aggarwal, RDBA secretary Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi were present on the occasion.
