Dhaka: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has cancelled Tuesday’s double-header in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League as a mark of respect following the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, plunging the nation into mourning.

BPL Double-Header Cancelled

The scheduled afternoon match between Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals, along with the evening fixture featuring Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, were both called off just hours before play. The BCB confirmed that the cancelled matches will be rescheduled, with revised dates to be announced later.

BCB Pays Tribute to Khaleda Zia

In an official statement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board acknowledged Khaleda Zia’s contribution to the growth of cricket in the country. The board said it “recalls with gratitude her constant blessings and good wishes for the progress of cricket,” noting that during her tenure as Prime Minister she extended strong support for infrastructure development and nationwide promotion of the sport.

Nation Mourns Former Prime Minister

Begum Khaleda Zia passed away early Tuesday morning at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at the age of 80, shortly after the Fajr prayer, according to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. She had been undergoing treatment for multiple health issues. In honour of her legacy and in keeping with the nation’s mourning, the BCB said suspending the league fixtures was a necessary step.
