Pithoragarh, July 19: The connection between Om Parvat Kalapani and Gunji was severed as a result of a vehicle and a bridge being washed away in the Nachti drain on the Lipulekh border of the border tehsil Dharchula of Pithoragarh district.
The road from Gujin to Kalapani has also been ruined as a result of Tuesday night’s rise in water levels in the drain. The army had alerted Kali Pani Post about the rapid spike of water in order to prevent negative effects, but up to that point, the dancing drain caused mayhem.
The movement of vehicles and the army has been quite difficult, said Sarpanch Lakshmi Gunjyal. The villagers are providing assistance.
The army’s help is being sought after, said Dharchula Joint Magistrate Divesh Shashani. He stated that as soon as the information was received, relief efforts were launched. The Gunji Patwari and Revenue team has been sent.
The army has also been requested to assist by being vigilant, he continued.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been instructed to remain on high alert as a result of the nine days of nonstop rainfall in Uttarakhand’s plain and hilly regions, which has caused an increase in river water levels.
“River Ganga is once again in spate as a result of constant rain that has been falling in the plains and hills of all of Uttarakhand for the past nine days, increasing the risk of flooding in the nearby areas. With the unexpected increase in the water level of river Ganga, there is a danger of flood in the coastal areas of Mayakund, Chandrabhaga, Chandreshwarnagar etc,” said officials.
Manikant Mishra, the SDRF Commandant, gave the order to all SDRF units to maintain a state of high alert in these conditions.
The SDRF officers and jawans have been instructed to maintain a state of alertness at all times due to the potential threat that the Ganga’s rising water level may present.
