Ayodhya, Jun 2: BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been denied permission by the Ayodhya district administration to host a rally here on June 5, an official said on Friday.
Singh, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and a BJP MP, has been charged with sexually harassing female wrestlers.
In light of other events planned for World Environment Day on June 5, the permission requested by BJP councillor Chamela Devi on behalf of Singh has been rejected, said Circle Officer (Ayodhya) SP Gautam.
In a Facebook post, Singh stated that the continuing police investigation into the wrestlers’ allegations against him was the reason he had postponed the “Jan Chetna Maharally” at the Ram Katha Park for “a few days.”
Protests have been held since April 23 by prominent wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik, accusing Singh of sexual exploitation.
Singh is the BJP MP from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh.
