New Delhi, Oct 19: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in war-torn Israel on Thursday, one day after US President Joe Biden’s visit.
As part of diplomatic attempts to calm the situation sparked by the Hamas strikes, he will also visit neighbouring countries.
Sunak’s office, as reported by the news agency Reuters, stated that in light of Israel’s escalating response to Hamas in Gaza, Sunak will express his condolences for the loss of life in both Israel and the Palestinian enclave. He will also caution against further escalation.
After arriving in Israel, Sunak wrote on X, “I am in Israel, a nation in grief. I grieve with you and stand with you against the evil that is terrorism. Today, and always.”

Hours after a bombing at a Gaza hospital left hundreds dead on Wednesday, Israel said that it will permit Egypt to send some humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip.
The White House, when evaluating the incident, indicated that the explosion at the Gaza hospital seemed to have occurred due to an accidental rocket launch by a terrorist organization in Gaza.
Conflicting assertions emerged regarding the party responsible for the explosion on Tuesday night. Rapid protests erupted in the region, with many Arab leaders pointing fingers at Israel.
Hamas officials in Gaza swiftly attributed the incident to an Israeli airstrike, claiming that hundreds of casualties had resulted.
However, Israel denied any involvement and presented a substantial amount of video, audio, and other evidence to support its assertion that the explosion was caused by a rocket misfire from Islamic Jihad, another militant group operating in Gaza. Islamic Jihad, in turn, rejected this explanation.
