Jamshedpur, Aug 20: Telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has set a target of providing 6,000 new high-speed air fibre internet connections across Steel City in the next three months.
General manager of BSNL’s Jamshedpur business area Sanjeev Verma said, “The work from home culture is becoming popular in the prevailing pandemic like online classes and meetings. BSNL’s Bharat Air Fibre Service which provides high-speed broadband connectivity of the order of 100 Mbps is acting as a true enabler in synergising this culture along with seamlessly providing e-education across the country.”
He went on to say that Bharat Air Fibre Service, known as FTTH: fibre-to-the-home, is handy in areas where laying cables is difficult and time-consuming.
Figures available from the BSNL office suggest that every month, 2000 FTTH connections are being added in the entire Jharkhand circle.
In Jamshedpur, where the Bharat Air Fibre service was launched in August last year, 900 connections are being added per month. This would be increased to 2000 per month because of a good response.
Significantly, recently Jamshedpur was recognised as BSNL’s largest business area in the fibre to the home (FTTH) internet sector in Jharkhand circle.
There are around 36,925 FTTH connections in the state and the bulk of these are in Jamshedpur (16,367), which is nearly 44 per cent, followed by Ranchi (8,598) which is nearly 23 per cent.
According to data shared by BSNL, there are 1.6 million FTTH customers in India and every month around 1 lakh connections are being added.
