Mumbai, Jan 5 : Mayank Rawal, a 21-year-old student from Uttarakhand, was nabbed by Mumbai cyber police as the third person arrested in the Bulli Bai app case.
Earlier, in connection with the case, the Mumbai police cyber cell detained Shweta Singh (18), the suspected main perpetrator from Uttarakhand, and engineering student Vishal Kumar Jha (21) from Bengaluru.
Following allegations that doctored images of hundreds of Muslim women were put for ‘auction’ on the app ‘Bulli Bai,’ based on the open-source software platform GitHub, the Mumbai police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified persons.
The main defendant was reportedly acting on the directions of a Nepalese friend. According to sources inside the investigation team, the major information acquired from the accused revealed that a Nepalese national named Giyou was coaching her on how to use the programme. His role, as well as that of others who were engaged with her, is being investigated by police.
She was apprehended in the Udham Singh Nagar district, and Mumbai police officers requested a transit remand until January 5. Vishal Kumar, who was arrested previously in Bengaluru, confirmed her identity. He said that he was in contact with the woman and that she was in contact with the persons who worked on the posts.
