Ranchi, Feb 12: C.P. Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP politician and former Coimbatore MP, has been appointed governor of Jharkhand on Sunday (Feb 12). He will replace Ramesh Bias, who has been appointed as the governor of Maharashtra.

Born in 1967, he is one of the most senior and well-respected BJP leaders from the south and Tamil Nadu, and he has been connected with the group for 48 years, starting with the RSS and Jan Sangh when he was 16 years old in 1973.

Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections of 1998 and 1999 for two terms. In the general elections of 1999, he won by a margin of 55,000 votes after winning by 1,50,000 votes in 1998.

Without the aid of either the DMK or the AIADMK, C.P. Radhakrishnan received 3,89,000 votes from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general elections and finished in second place.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Radhakrishnan received 3,92,007 votes and finished second in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat.

C.P. Radhakrishnan, also known as CPR in BJP circles, served as Kerala BJP’s Prabhari during the most recent Assembly elections in 2021.

Additionally, he served as the chairman of the All India Coir Board, a department of the Indian government’s MSME sector. He is also the former state president of the party for Tamil Nadu.

Presently he is the National Executive Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and was appointed the Kerala BJP Prabhari (In-Charge) by the party’s high command.
