Kabul, Jan 17: After Mursal Nabizada, the former Afghan MP was shot dead in Kabul on Sunday, a group of Canadian MPs asked for immediate action to bring back eight Afghan women MPs stranded in Kabul in complete despair over the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, who sought to make people’s lives miserable, reported Khaama Press.

Six Canadian parliamentarians stated that they had been working for more than a year to bring the remaining eight Afghan women MPs to Canada, said sources.

The statement further added that women and girls are not safe in Afghanistan, especially these brave female MPs who paved the way for Afghan women under the previous administration.

“We urge the Canadian government to act on this matter urgently and take immediate actions to assist in getting these women to safety,” the statement read.

Moreover, Afghan women MPs from the previous government, who remained in Kabul after the Taliban took power in August 2021 are now facing immediate threats.

Under Taliban rule, the quality of life, especially for women and girls, has drastically declined. Women are increasingly prohibited from participating in public spaces, sports, jobs, and education.
