Ranchi, Dec.19: A car carrying a three-member family including a couple with a two-year-girl child plunged into Ranchi lake, whose beautification work involving Rs 12 crore (approx) is in progress for more than two years.
A Jharkhand High Court advocate Khusboo Kataruka informed about the incident to Lagatar24.com around 2 pm saying all those riding in the car were safely rescued.
On visiting the spot, it came to the fore that the accident took place when the car was on its way to Main Road from Madhukam and it was being driven by Vyas Singh and a resident of Pahan Toli in Madhukam.
“As the car reached near Sun Temple, a speeding bike came from the opposite side. In order to save the bike, the driver lost balance and the car plunged into that portion of the lake which had no guard wall unlike other portions of the lake,” a local resident said.
Mohammed Mohsin, who was accompanied by Mohammed Chintu and Mohammed Mintu, rescued the victim and supported the resident saying that the family was fortunate that the car did not go deep into the water.
“If a guard wall had been constructed in that portion this accident would have been averted,” Mohsin said.
Police fished out the car by 4 pm with the help of a crane. The car bearing registration number JH01E 8685 was purchased a year ago. After the car was fished out, its steering was found locked.
A Madhukam resident close to the victim said that the car plunged into the water as the driver of the car pressed the accelerator instead of the brake in order to save the biker.
When the incident was informed to the superintending engineer of the civic body Rama Shanker Ram, he said that he can plan constructing a guard wall of one to one and half feet as the place where the incident took place is under for Chatth celebration.
Asked why proper railing has not been given there, he said that the government plans road widening in that area. Once this happens, the width of road will automatically increase in the area and railing will not be required.
A locality resident said that the civic body is very slow in its work. “Civic body is expected to install light around the lake, develop grass in the course of its development like marine drive but the pace of work is very slow. The lake is still stinking and the lighting arrangement is still poor,” the resident said.
On this issuse, deputy municipal commissioner Rajnish Kumar said: “Beautification work is almost complete. Lighting work has been completed. Work of developing grass towards Nagarmal Modi Seva Sadan has also been completed. Paver blocks have been laid. Railing work is also almost complete. The work will be completed soon.”
