Ranchi: With the nomination process for the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections complete, candidates and their supporters have shifted their focus to vigorous campaigning. Meanwhile, some workers have not hesitated to request “expense money” from their leaders. Requests are pouring in, whether it’s for the cost of attending rallies or feeding the crowds. The culture of cash-for-support appears to be quite common during these elections. Notably, excerpts from a WhatsApp group supporting a Hatia candidate have revealed messages from supporters demanding financial help for their campaign efforts.

Ground-Level Worker Requests Support, Claims Motorcycle Is Broken

According to a WhatsApp chat, a grassroots worker who has been working diligently for the candidate reported that his motorcycle had broken down. Instead of seeking help from elsewhere, the worker thought it best to post about his need in the group created to support the candidate, hoping that the leader might notice and arrange the required funds. Unfortunately, the candidate did not respond to the worker’s plea. When the correspondent contacted the individual who made the financial request, he said, “Before elections, those close to the candidate would occasionally provide some expense money. Now, with just days left until the elections, my motorcycle has broken down, preventing me from campaigning. That’s why I asked for money in the group supporting the candidate.”
