Ranchi, July 21: A similar circumstance that took sub inspector Sandhya Topno’s life on the outskirts of the Jharkhand capital also occurred in Raidih in Gumla, but fortunately the police officers on duty were able to save them.
According to police personnel, the incident happened on Wednesday at about 3:30 am in the Shankh More neighbourhood, close to the Raidih police station.
“Police received a wireless transmission about the movement of a Bolero and a vehicle containing livestock that had been smuggled. A police crew responded to the communication and arrived in Shankh More. The squad discovered a Bolero was being followed by a truck. Police officers gave the truck and SUV’s drivers the signal to stop. The motorists didn’t pull over. They attempted to run down the on-duty police officers. Policemen somehow saved them,” the police official said.
Asked about the fate of the vehicles, the policeman said, “After the vehicles escaped, immediately all policemen were alerted with the help of wireless and a police team started chasing the vehicles. In order to escape, Balero flipped on its side while the driver sitting on it escaped, taking advantage of the darkness. The truck kept on running. It had broken a barrier near the Raidih police station. An ASI Prasidha Tiwari sustained a minor injury while intercepting the truck. Finally, the truck driver parked the truck at a distance and escaped.”
About the number of cattle loaded on the vehicles, the policeman said, “As many as 41 cattle were loaded on both the vehicles, which was distributed among the villagers.”
