Trichy, Sep 26: Farmer protests in Trichy against Karnataka and the central government seeking the supply of Cauvery water from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu took an unexpected turn. In protest of the continuing issue with Karnataka, farmers protested by holding rats in their mouths.

The demonstration in Trichy is being led by Ayyakannu, president of the Tamil Nadu chapter of the National South Indian River Interlinking Farmers’ Association.

In order to preserve the standing ‘kuruvai’ crop cultivation in Tamil Nadu, protesters requested that Cauvery water be shared.

Earlier also, a protest against the ongoing conflict with Karnataka was organised by a group of farmers in Trichy on Sunday. Farmers were calling for the supply of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

In the meantime, farmers in Mandya, Karnataka, are protesting to prevent water releases from Karnataka dams to Tamil Nadu. Farmers all throughout Karnataka have been protesting since the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) mandated that the state provide 5000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days starting on September 13.
