New Delhi, Dec 29: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has asked the makers of upcoming movie Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone ro make changes to the film’s songs and submitting a revised version for certification.
Deepika’s appearance in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ while wearing a saffron-colored bathing costume caused criticism for the movie.
“The film recently reached the CBFC examination committee for certification and went through the due and thorough examination process as per the board’s guidelines,” the statement said.
CBFC chairperson, Prasoon Joshi said, “Pathaan went through the due and through examining process as per the CBFC guidelines. The committee has guided the makers to implement the advised changes in the film including the songs and submit the revised version prior to theatrical release.”
Notably, Pathaan is scheduled for theatrical release in January 2023, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
On December 12, the song Besharam Rang from the movie became live online, and it quickly gained popularity. While many people enjoyed the upbeat music, some considered the song offensive due to the saffron and green outfits.
People burned Deepika and Shah Rukh effigies during a protest in Indore. In a media interview, Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra expressed his displeasure with the song’s use of saffron-colored costumes. He claimed that the song featured some offensive settings and attire.
