New Delhi, April 27: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday nabbed an evading suspect in a Rhino Poaching Case.
After relentless attempts, the CBI located the accused Raidang Engti in Lhomithi Village of Dimapur, Nagaland.
In response to a request from the Assam government and subsequent notification from the Indian government, the CBI opened an inquiry into an FIR that had been filed in 2012 at Police Station Rongmongwe in the Assamese district of Karbi Anglong.
In the complaint, it was claimed that unidentified poachers killed a Rhino in July 2012 and stole its horn. The rhino’s carcass was lying in a hole that was situated between two Long Koi Tisso Gaon suburbs.
Investigation revealed that the other accused sold the rhino horn to the apprehended accused in Dimapur (Nagaland) after killing the rhino. The accused’s complicity was revealed to be the mechanism via which the rhino horn from the poaching incident was bought and sold for a sizeable sum.
A chargesheet was filed in March 2018 against five suspects following an inquiry. The sale of the Rhino horn was under investigation, and there was a warrant out for the arrest of the accused, whose identity had come to light because they had bought the rhino horn that had been obtained through poaching.
“During the investigation, it was found that after killing the Rhino, the other accused sold the Rhino horn to said arrested accused at Dimapur (Nagaland). The complicity of the said accused had emerged as the person through whom the poached Rhino horn was traded and transacted for a hefty amount,” said the CBI.
