Ranchi, Feb. 23: The Special Judge of CBI in Ranchi has sentenced Sagar Singh Meena, then Manager(Safety), NTPC Ltd, Barkagaon, Hazaribagh(Jharkhand) to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs one lakh.

The CBI had registered the instant case on September 4, 2020 against Sagar Singh Meena, Manager(Safety), NTPC Ltd, Barkagaon, Hazaribagh(Jharkhand), on the allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs.7 lakh from the complainant against the payment by NTPC for the supply of Covid related materials like masks, sanitizers, PPE kits etc. During negotiation, the accused agreed to accept Rs 3 lakh through cheque from the complainant. The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding & accepting the undue advantage of Rs.3 lakh through cheque from the complainant. The accused was produced before the competent Court and had been remanded to judicial custody.

After investigation, a charge sheet was filed in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Ranchi on 29.10.2020. During the course of the trial, 13 witnesses were examined and 17 documents and articles were exhibited. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.

In September 2020, the CBI had arrested him for accepting Rs three lakh as a bribe. The CBI had lodged an inquiry on a complaint against Meena where it was alleged that he demanded Rs seven lakh in lieu of payment of Rs 69.61 lakh made to the complainant by the NTPC for the supply of mask, sanitizers, PPE kits, and others by his firm. The CBI laid a trap and caught him while accepting a bribe through a cheque.
