Ranchi, Sept 8: The closure report of the CBI in Jharkhand police cop Rupa Tirkey’s (26) murder has left the family of the deceased cop disappointed. Well-placed sources in the CBI confirmed the agency has filed a closure report.

“I came across the newspapers that the CBI has filed a closure report. Since the first day of the incident Jharkhand Police botched up this case and destroyed evidence in order to save culprits who are powerful. Our disappointment has no end. My daughter was a brave cop she was murdered,” said father of the deceased Devanand Oraon.

However, the Patna unit of the CBI which investigated this suspected murder case is tightlipped that under what circumstances the agency was forced to close this case. Jharkhand police initially claimed that she committed suicide. Later on, after much hue and cry the police termed it a case of abetment for suicide and arrested her friend Shiv Kumar Kanaujia on the charge of abetment. But the family member alleged Pankaj Mishra and his associate Dahu Yadav murdered their daughter. Rupa’s mother  Padmavati Orain filed a criminal writ petition 139/ 2021 at Jharkhand High Court which ordered a CBI probe.

The closure has come as a huge relief for Pankaj Mishra who is the MLA representative of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Pankaj Mishra is in judicial custody in the illegal mining case currently in police remand of the Enforcement Directorate where he is being questioned for his alleged involvement in illegal mining. Dahu Yadav is also the accused in the illegal mining case. He was questioned by the ED.

The media report claimed that the CBI found nothing incriminating to substantiate that Rupa Tirkey was either murdered or forced to commit suicide.

“If this was not a case of murder then why was the state government worried? The Advocate General wanted the transfer of hearing of this case to some other court, other than Justice Sanjay Dwivedi. The state government ordered a judicial enquiry just in order to create a parallel probe. A senior politician approached us not to demand a CBI enquiry. All these suggest that there was something wrong. There is circumstantial evidence indicating foul play,” said Devanand Oraon.

Asked whether he will contest the closure report of the CBI, he said that the family would consult their advocate.

The CBI questioned family members on multiple occasions. But the family apparently failed to give concrete information and material evidence to support the conspiracy theory.

A former CBI official said that the closure report is subject to satisfaction of the court and the complainant. “The complainant can file a protest petition. The court can reject the closure report if it is satisfied that the probe was not properly.

Rupa Tirkey was posted at Sahibganj Mahila Police Station as sub inspector of Jharkhand Police. She was found hanging at her official quarter on the morning of May 3 2021. Police concluded it as a case of suicide and arrested the 2018 batch Sub Inspector Shiv Kanaujia on May 9, 2021 on the charge of abetment of suicide.

But the family members disputed the police investigation and filed a PIL at the Jharkhand High court to seek a CBI inquiry. The family contended that Rupa Tirkery was murdered by powerful persons of Sahibganj and named Pankaj Mishra also. On September 1 last year the court of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi ordered the CBI inquiry.
