Dhanbad, Aug 2: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the police of two states including Jharkhand and Bengal have made a beeline in different courts for the remand of jailed Ranchi-based news channel News11 Bharat’s head Arup Chatterjee in different cases.
As per the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Umesh Dikshit, a total of 25 criminal cases are lodged against Arup Chatterjee in police stations of Jharkhand and Bengal in connection with cheating, forgery, extortion demand and blackmailing.
Before Dhanbad police arrested him from Ranchi in the early morning of July 19, the CBI Dhanbad branch had issued summon to Arup Chatterjee for appearing on July 7 in connection with a cheating case by his Care Vision Group of Companies, Care Vision Mutual Benefit Limited and Care Vision Infrastructure and Agrotech Limited.
The CBI summoned him for the second time on July 18 but he did not appear. Now, he is in jail and the CBI is trying to take him on remand.
The Bengal police of 24 Pargana district have sent a production warrant for Arup Chatterjee to the Dhanbad jail in a 7-year-old case. An FIR was lodged against Chatterjee in Baguhati police station of 24 Pargana in 2015.
After his arrest from Ranchi on July 19 on extortion and blackmailing charges by a coal trader (a relative of ex–DGP of Bihar Gupteshwar Pandey) Rakesh Ojha, the ghosts of old criminal cases have sunk Arup Chatterjee into the deep sea.
Though Arup got bail from the Jharkhand High Court on July 20, before he came out from jail on July 21, a four-year-old case was opened and he was duly sent back inside.
A resident of Loyabad, Manoj Pandit (who was the agent of Arup’s chit fund company), had filed an FIR against Arup Chatterjee in Putki police station in 2018 under Section 406/ 420/ 120 B.
Bank More police have also taken a production warrant of Arup in an 8-year-old case filed by a car showroom owner of Dhanbad.
As per the complaint lodged by Classic Automobile Showroom owner Rajendra Prasad in 2014, Arup came to his showroom on March 10 and took delivery of the Safari car saying that he would send money in the evening but never paid for it.
On July 24, 2022, ex-chairman of Dhanbad District Board Robin Gorai and Amtal Mukhia Sanjay Kumar filed FIRs in Kalubathan OP and Baliapur police station against Arup alleging him of cheating money in the name of attractive return.
As per the allegation, Arup had taken Rs 10 lakh from Robin Gorai on March 5, 2012, while realized Rs 7.11 lakh from Sanjay Kumar on February 24, 2012, in the name of Care Vision Mutual Benefit Limited but neither gave any receipt nor returned the amount.
