New Delhi, June 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation searched the residence of Agrasen Gehlot, the brother of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, today in a new case of alleged corruption. According to sources, the investigating agency team has also visited Agrasen Gehlot’s business headquarters.
The Enforcement Directorate, or ED, is already investigating Agrasen Gehlot for alleged malfeasance in a fertiliser export case. The ED claims that considerable amounts of fertiliser were unlawfully exported in 2007 and 2009.
The ED has begun a probe into Saraf Impex and others in the fertiliser case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, or PMLA. Agrasen Gehlot’s company, Anupam Krishi, allegedly exported potash through Saraf Impex. The fertiliser that was exported was intended for farmers in Rajasthan.
The CBI searches have been called ‘vendetta politics’ by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. “This is vendetta politics beyond all bounds. Ashok Gehlot was at the forefront of the protests in Delhi over the past three days, and this is Modi government’s brazen response. We will not be silenced,” he tweeted.
