Daltonganj, June 17: A 90-minute ‘train roko’ stir was launched today by the agitating youths protesting against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme at the Daltonganj railway station under the East Central Railway of the Dhanbad division.
Station superintendent of Daltonganj railway station Anil Kumar Tiwary said the ‘train roko’ stir led to an unscheduled halt of a large number of trains passenger and goods one from Daltonganj to Rai Khelari railway station and up to Pdt Deendayal Upadhayay railway junction (old name Moghulsarai railway junction).
However, all rail traffic under the Dhanbad division resumed at around 10 am.
A K Tiwary said it is not possible to give an exact number of trains that were controlled at the various railway stations.
According to sources, some unidentified people smashed the glass panel of the engine of the goods train in Daltonganj. The station superintendent said that the matter is being investigated.
The superintendent further said that railway property, railway platforms, stalls on the platforms, cabins and other installations of the railways remained untouched by the agitators and no harm was caused to them.
Passengers except for trains getting late had no problem otherwise.
Town police led a big helping hand to the RPF and the GRP in saving the situation from going worse.
SDPO Surjit Kumar and his team had a tough time convincing and controlling the youths to stay away from the railway tracks.
Some of the agitating youths had put a piece of small iron rail on the track which was later removed. Patience and understanding helped security forces and railway personnel to tide over the crisis.
