Ranchi, Sept.8: Following Jharkhand Court’s direction, the apex probe agency of the country, CBI, today registered an FIR in Mahila Thana in-charge Rupa Tirkey death case.
Patna branch of the CBI will probe the matter under the leadership of Dy SP Vishwambhar Dikshit. The number of the case is 0922021S0002.
Jharkhand High Court on September 1 directed the CBI to take up the investigation.
The court of Justice S.K.Dwivedi, which found the death case rarest of the rare to hand over the CBI for probe, observed that the police took it as a suicide case though the injury was found on the body.
The court observed that the viscera of the deceased were not preserved for forensic examination and on the very first day of the incident police came to the conclusion of suicide.
The court also observed that police started two parallel investigations, one registering a case unnatural death another by lodging an FIR. Apart from this, the court observed state police frequently changed investigating officers of the case. Not lodging an FIR against high ups on the complaint of deceased’s mother and taking the statement of Pankaj Mishra in absence of FIR also made the court suspicious.
Other points, which prompted the court to order the CBI probe included the call details brought on record of interaction between the high officials and investigating officer with Pankaj Mishra, the pressure of dropping cases against close persons of Pankaj Mishra, suicide in naked position and photograph and video in pen drive.
The petition arose after Rupa was found hanging at Sahibganj on May 3 and the matter hogged the limelight with a suspicion that she was provoked to commit suicide by someone close to the chief minister.
