New Delhi, Aug 30: The CBI has taken over the probe of 27 FIRs related to ethnic conflict in Manipur that have cost more than 160 lives in the past nearly four months, officials stated.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), according to the most recent data, has so far registered 27 cases that the state police have turned over to it. These cases include 19 involving crimes against women, three involving a mob’s looting of an armoury, two murder cases, and one each involving rioting and murder, kidnapping, and general criminal conspiracy, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Due to the delicate nature of the circumstances prevailing in the northeastern state, the agency re-registered these cases but did not make the details public, they said.
After visiting the crime scenes, CBI teams have begun questioning the suspects and victims, the sources added.
The investigation gained momentum after the CBI high command assembled a team of 53 officers, including 29 women, from different units of the federal agency around the nation to look into the instances, they stated.
