New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, during a programme in Gorakhpur, shed light on India’s counter-terror operations, including Uri, Balakot, Pahalgam and the recently executed Operation Sindoor. He underlined how India’s military response has evolved over the years, combining precision with strong political backing.
From Uri to Balakot: Turning Points
General Chauhan recounted that after the 2016 Uri attack, Indian forces carried out a successful surgical strike, destroying terror camps inside Pakistan. Similarly, after the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, the Indian Air Force targeted and demolished terror bases in Balakot, killing several terrorists. These marked key moments in India’s counter-terror playbook, he noted.
Operation Sindoor After Pahalgam Attack
The CDS revealed that following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, conducting sudden strikes on terror camps inside Pakistan. He explained that discussions with political leadership established that limited drone strikes would not suffice, and airstrikes in Bahawalpur and Muridke were necessary to meet strategic objectives.
Precision and Evolving Tactics
General Chauhan highlighted how, post-Balakot, India has refined its airstrike strategies, enabling forces to strike terror camps while evading enemy radar detection. He stressed that Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s restraint, precision, and political-military synergy, sending a strong global message against terrorism.
War and Politics Interlinked
Citing a German political thinker, General Chauhan said, “War is an extension of politics.” He reiterated that in a democracy, the armed forces always operate under political leadership, and that India’s recent operations have showcased this civil-military alignment effectively.
