Celsius touches 45 degrees at Godda, IMD forecasts dry weather and heat wave today

Jamshedpur, April 19: The maximum temperature has reached 45 degrees Celsius for the first time in Jharkhand during the past 24- hours with Godda recording an oppressive 45.1°C, four notches above normal.

As per Meteorological records, the day’s temperature crossed 43 degrees Celsius mark at several places including Daltonganj and Deoghar.

Jamshedpur and Garhwa too recorded close to 43 degree Celsius while Chaibasa in West Singhbhum, Ramgarh and Simdega recorded around 42 degrees Celsius in the past 24 – hours.

Meteorological statistics revealed that the night readings in most places across the state recorded two to three notches above normal.

Weathermen at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre said that no significant synoptic condition prevails over Jharkhand today.

A Western Disturbance seen as a trough between 3.1 Km and 5.8 Km above mean sea level with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Longitude 64°E to the north of Latitude 21°N.

Dry weather coupled with heat waves prevailed at isolated places over the state.

The season’s highest maximum temperature of  45.1°C was recorded at Godda while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.2°C was recorded at Garhwa.

The Meteorological department issued an alert of heat waves today too. It also issued an advisory asking people to stay indoors to avoid sunstroke and Loo, a dry and hot wind which blows in the plains during this time of the season.
