Ranchi, Aug 29: The Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has become the first subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) to sign an agreement for mining in underground mines in mine developer cum operator (MDO) mode.
CCL signed the MoU with JMS Mining Pvt Ltd for operation of Piparwar Underground Mines through the MDO mode at CCL Headquarters in Ranchi on Monday.
GM (Piparwar) CB Sahay signed the deal in the presence of CCL CMD PM Prasad, Director Tech (P&P) SK Gomasta and Director (Finance) PK Mishra. JMS Mining Technical Director Kalyan Kumar Hajara singed it on behalf of his company.
Technical Secretary to CCL CMD Alok Kumar Singh, Technical Secretary to Director Technical (P&P) PK Singh and Technical Secretary to Director (Finance) Sanjay Singh and others were present during the programme.
The project when operational will have an annual production capacity of 0.87 million tonnes per year.
The project will utilize the best state of the art technology to ensure that the ecosystem of the area is not hampered by mining activities. The project has a capital outlay of Rs 1,889 crores. The mines will be operational for 14 years, and eco-friendly, blast-free mining will be done to minimize the detrimental effect on the environment.
In the MDO mode, the contractor carries out the entire spectrum of activities right from obtaining the environmental clearance and forest clearance, R&R activities, obtaining applicable permits, licenses etc, developing projects (including detailed designing, financing, mine construction, procurement of mining and other equipment), operate and maintain mine for excavation or extraction and delivery of coal in accordance with annual production program, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, CCL CMD Prasad stated that the company is committed to fulfilling the vision of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi through sustainable mining.
He further added that when operating, Piparwar underground mine will help in the holistic development of the local community and will create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for the people of the area.
The company broke all the previous records with the production of 68.6 MT coal in the previous fiscal and is confident of increasing the same in the present fiscal. Piparwar Area has been one of the most prestigious and one of the highest producing areas of CCL with last year (FY 2021-22) annual production of 13.13 MT.
Piparwar Opencast Mine of Piparwar Area was the first mine in Coal India where the fully Mobile Inpit Crushing and Conveying System along with state-of-the-art CHP-CPP was installed, which makes it unique in itself.
