New Delhi, Sept 28: The Popular Front of India (PFI), a radical organisation, was banned for five years by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday for its claimed ties to terror funding following many raids around the nation and arrests by the central authorities.

Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation, and Rehab Foundation, Kerala, PFI’s affiliate organisations, were also prohibited from operating.

Several states demanded that the costume be outlawed. The decision was taken based on the report of the investigating agencies.

Notably, the PFI was raided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and state police on September 22 and September 27.

In the initial set of operations, 106 PFI members were detained. Meanwhile, 247 PFI members were apprehended or arrested during the second series of operations. Investigating agencies gathered sufficient evidence against the group, on the basis of which the group’s ban was decided.

In response to the central government’s declaration that PFI and any of its fronts or allies are unlawful associations, BJP leader Kapil Mishra tweeted that ” Banning PFI is a decisive step against Islamic Jihad” in a tweet.

“Strong and timely action by Central Government, MHA that has banned the #PFI for a period of five years. But we have seen in the past how Congress, SP, RJD, Left, etc have given political patronage to terror in name of votebank,” BJP’s national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla said in a tweet.
