New Delhi, Feb 3: New rules have been released by the Union Government on the reopening of schools and institutions across the country.

According to the amended standards, states can determine whether or not to seek parental approval for students to participate in offline classes.

“State and UT governments may decide at their level whether their schools are required to take the consent of the parents of the students attending the physical classes,” the guidelines mentioned.

Earlier, parental consent was mandatory for children to attend school.

The amended standards also emphasised the use of bridge courses to help students transition from online to classroom learning, as well as focusing on students who require further interventions and implementing remedial programmes.

At the time of reopening their schools, states and union territories have been urged to incorporate these modified principles into their existing school standard operating procedures (SoPs).

As the number of Covid cases decreases, schools and colleges in numerous states, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, began reopening on February 1, while schools and colleges in West Bengal reopened on February 3.

Institutions and colleges in Uttar Pradesh will resume on February 6, while the DDMA will decide on the reopening of schools in Delhi on Friday, February 4.
