New Delhi, August 29: Union Minister Anurag Thakur, announced on Tuesday that the cost of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders for household use has been reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder for all consumers. The cost of a 14.2 kg cooking gas cylinder has decreased by 18% as a result.
While the cost of home LPG cylinders has dropped by Rs 200, those who are eligible for the government’s Ujjwala Yojana will now receive a savings of Rs 400 per cylinder.
“Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries are already getting a Rs 200 subsidy, but they will also benefit from the decrease in the rate. That means the rate reduction for the ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ beneficiaries will be Rs 400 per cylinder,” Thakur said.
“Since 2014, PM Modi has been making decisions in favour of women and their empowerment. Over 9.6 crore women benefit from the Ujjwala Yojana,” he said.
“PM Modi has decided Rs 200 reduction in the price of domestic LPG cylinders, for all users…this is a gift from PM Narendra Modi, to the women of the country, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan,” Thakur added.
He continued by saying that the PMUY would provide free installation of 75 lakh new gas connections. He declared, “On the occasion of Onam and the eve of Raksha Bandhan, I’m happy to announce that the PM has given a big gift to the women and 75 lakh women will get free gas connections under the Ujjwala Yojana, free of cost.”
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which was introduced in May 2016, is a significant government effort for social welfare. Its main objective is to provide economically disadvantaged women, especially those who live below the poverty line, with access to clean cooking fuel.
The primary goal of the Ujjwala Yojana is to replace conventional cooking methods that rely on solid fuels like wood, coal and biomass with the safer and more environmentally friendly choice of LPG.
