New Delhi, July 24: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will hold a high-level review meeting on monkeypox this afternoon, according to a statement made on Sunday by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“A 34-year-old male resident of Delhi was isolated at Lok Nayak Hospital as a suspected case of Monkeypox. A confirmation of the diagnosis has been done by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune,” said the Ministry.
At Lok Nayak Hospital’s dedicated isolation centre, the case is currently recovering. The government was told that the case’s identified close contacts were placed under quarantine in accordance with MOHFW rules.
“Further public health interventions like identification of the source of infection, enhanced contact tracing, testing sensitisation of private practitioners etc are being carried out. A high-level review of the situation has been planned by DGHS at 3 pm today,” added the Ministry.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister, urged people not to worry after Delhi announced the first case of monkeypox on Sunday and assured them that the “best team” was working to stop the virus’ spread. He said that LNJP hospital has created separate isolation units for patients with monkeypox.
Notably, India had reported a total of four cases of monkeypox till now.
