Chandigarh, Mar 11: Congress’s Charanjit Singh Channi has submitted his resignation as the Punjab Chief Minister to Governor at Raj Bhawan today.
Channi lost both the Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur seats he ran for in the Punjab polls 2022.
However, the outgoing CM and the state cabinet will continue the work until the new AAP government to be led by Bhagwant Mann is sworn in.
“I have given my resignation to the Governor. He told me and the cabinet to continue until the new Government is sworn in. I accept the people’s mandate,” Channi said to the media persons after submitting his resignation.
“We will always be there to serve the people of Punjab. We will continue doing our duty and be among them. I request the new government to continue the public welfare projects and schemes that we brought in, in the last 111 days,” he added.
According to AAP sources, CM designate Bhagwant Mann is likely to take oath on March 16. The oath ceremony will take place in Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s village Khatkar Kalan.
