New Delhi, Sept 10: King Charles will be officially proclaimed as Britain’s new monarch at a meeting of the Accession Council at St James’s Palace on Saturday, Reuters reported citing Buckingham Palace.
The formal committee tasked with supervising the succession from Queen Elizabeth II will convene at 10:00 am (0900 GMT), and at 11:00 am in London, a first public announcement will be made from a balcony of St. James’s Palace.
Notably, the longest-reigning queen in British history, Queen Elizabeth, passed away on Thursday at the age of 96. Her son became the new king in her place.
Following the monarch’s passing, Charles immediately ascends to the throne. At St. James’s Palace, the sovereign’s formal residence, an Accession Council is called as soon as practicable, generally within 24 hours, to announce the successor.
