Chatra, May 17: Following the instructions of Chatra DC Abu Imran, a vehicle checking campaign was conducted late last night in Tandwa and Simaria areas by the District Level Mining Task Force to prevent illegal mining as well as put a check on road accidents as well.
It may be noted that in the last six months, 18 people have lost their lives in road accidents in these areas. The administration is trying to reduce these increasing accidents and, in this sequence, a vehicle checking campaign was conducted in which documents of 20 vehicles were seized
District Transport Officer (DTO) Santosh Kumar Singh who led this operation said the main objective was to stop the operation of those vehicles which were running in violation of the prescribed rules like compliance of permit conditions, presence of tarpaulin as per order, compliance of pollution norms etc. Singh said that the papers of the said 20 vehicles were seized today for flouting the above rules.
Sources said other than this operation, the DC has passed several necessary guidelines to put a check on road accidents in industrial areas including the installation of high mast and LED lights as well as CCTV cameras on accident-prone routes. With the DC passing this instruction in May.10, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) started this work now from its CSR fund.
Sources said this matter came to Imran’s knowledge in the last meeting of the road safety committee. In that meeting, it was informed by the DTO Santosh Kumar Singh that due to the operation of heavy vehicles and coal-laden vehicles in the industrial areas of CCL and NTPC, accidents are continuously increasing, due to which damage to life and property are reported, which has also become the main reason for public anger. It was also told in the said meeting that in the financial year 2022-23, a large number of accidents have occurred at different places like Dhangada Ghati, Vrinda, Kishunpur, Serendag, Bingalat and Udsu.
To minimise these accidents, Imran ordered for installation of a high mast light/LED Light and CCTV in the accident-prone routes. He directed to get the above work done at the earliest in the following routes so that life and property could be saved from damage. Such routes are 1.24 km from CCL Amrapali to NTPC (High Mask Light/LED Light at every 100 meters), 12 km from CCL Magadh to NTPC (High Mask Light/LED Light at every 10 meters), 24 KM from Chattibariyatu to NTPC (High Mask Light/LED Light at every 100 meters) as well as above work to be done at Basariya More. As per the instructions of the DC, the work of installation of High Mask Light/LED Light and CCTV is in progress in the said accident-prone routes. Even the work has been started to install lights, officials added.
Singh said this is a serious matter related to the loss of lives on above mentioned routes. So on the initiative of the DC, CCL has now started the work to install lights from its CSR funds, he informed. Singh said all accidents are taking place between 5 to 8 in the evening so need for proper lights on such routes are needed to minimise them. He said the maximum accidents are between bikes and heavy vehicles.
Talking to Lagatar24.com, Imran said this light installation order was passed by him to put a check on frequent accidents. He even urged people to follow the traffic guidelines so as to stay safe. Maximum accidents reported so far involved bikers with many not wearing helmets, he added. If you love your family then follow traffic rules and must wear helmets, he added before signing off.
