Chatra, Oct 8: Chatra Sadar Hospital will now be able to keep dead bodies for a long time as it got a body freezer box from the district administration which will help in keeping unclaimed bodies for a long time.

Deputy superintendent of the hospital, Manish Kumar, confirmed this and said they will purchase two more freezers in the coming months seeing the requirement.

Sources said the hospital was not having freezers to keep dead bodies. Due to this, in the case of unclaimed bodies, they couldn’t keep them safe for a few days till their identification. It used to be a difficult task to keep the bodies in cases where the kin of the dead residing abroad wanted the bodies to be kept for a few days till their arrival.

In many cases, hospital authorities were left with no other option but to perform the last rites of the unclaimed body due to decomposition. In a few cases, they were sent to the neighbouring district to keep it there in a deep freezer.

However, as the district administration has made one freezer available now, it is seen as an upgrade in the facility here. A doctor said this was the demand of time and an important facility needed at this hospital. “Many times demand in this regard was raised and we are thankful to the administration,” he added.
