New Delhi, Jan 2: An angry mob invaded a Catholic church in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar on Monday, inflicting injuries on a top police official who was seen clutching his head and having blood drip down his face.

Sadanand Kumar, the superintendent of police in Narayanpur, is the injured official and has been taken to the hospital.

“Some members of the tribal community went to attack a church in Bangalpara area. During the violence, someone attacked me. An investigation will be conducted into the entire incident,” he said.

An Adivasi group protesting the subject of forced conversions in Narayanpur convened a conference. A heated argument between two opposing groups rapidly broke out. People exchanged blows while chairs and stones were thrown around. It quickly escalated into a full-fledged battle.

To stop the protests from getting out of hand, more security personnel were requested.
