Dhanbad, Jan 2: In recognition to his pioneering work in the field of strategic sectors of mining and coal science, Dr MS Santosh, Senior Scientist and Head of the coal to hydrogen sustainable solution division of the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) has been selected as a member of Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS).
INYAAS which was established by Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in 2014 has selected a total of 27 scientists across the country for encouraging the free exchange of ideas among young scientists and Dr Santosh is one of them.
Dr Santosh is the first scientist from CIMFR, Dhanbad to be selected for this academy. The main goal of INYAS is to promote community development in academic, research and scientific activities.
Dr Santosh joined CIMFR, Dhanbad in 2021 from a renowned engineering institute in Bangalore. He is considered an expert in research works on hydrogen production, suppression and storage.
He had completed PhD in chemistry from the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathkal and pursued research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. Dr Santosh has published in over 85 articles in international journals and has completed projects funded by the European Union, SERB, DST, CEFIPRA, DRDO and KCTU.
He has also completed various bilateral programs with France, Russia, Belarus, Sweden, Singapore and Vietnam.
CIMFR scientists have received several national and international awards such as the INSA Summer Research Fellowship, DST Young Scientist Award, BIRAC-Sristi Innovation Award, BRICS Young Scientist Award, Commonwealth and Hungarian Fellowships, Global Sharper Award, Swedish Institute of Guest Scholarship and IUPAC’s Junior Research Award.
In addition to CIMFR, Dr Santosh also served as Chief Operating Officer of the DST-ASTOM-funded Incubation Centre where he taught life skills to students. He has also visited scientists from CISR, South Africa, Russia and other countries.
