New Delhi, Dec 21: Dr Jayaprakash Muliyil, a member of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India (NTAGI), has ruled out the need to vaccinate children against Covid-19 for the time being.
The panel has advised the Centre that the children are fine and that no vaccinations are required at this time.
According to Muliyil, who is one of the country’s leading epidemiologists, India has not had a single death due to Covid-19 among children under the age of 12.
Many companies are currently undertaking scientific research, according to NTAGI, following an evaluation meeting on December 8. As a result, no official dates for the immunisation push for people under the age of 18 in the country have been declared yet.
According to a report released last month, nearly 100 countries have expanded their Covid-19 vaccine campaigns to include children. The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination was licenced by France on Monday for all children aged 5 to 11.
Meanwhile, Delhi reported 24 new cases of the Omicron type of Covid-19 on Tuesday. On Tuesday, there were 202 Omicron cases across the country.
