Beijing, August 29: China unveiled the 2023 version of its “standard map” on Monday, including Taiwan, the disputed South China Sea, Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin region.
“The 2023 edition of China’s standard map was officially released on Monday and launched on the website of the standard map service hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources,” state-run Global Times said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“This map is compiled based on the drawing method of the national boundaries of China and various countries in the world,” the post said.
The Global Times’ map included Aksai Chin, which China had conquered during the 1962 war and Arunachal Pradesh, which it says is South Tibet.
Arunachal Pradesh “was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” India has consistently reminded China.
The island of Taiwan and a sizable portion of the South China Sea, both of which China has claimed, are also included on the map as Chinese territory.
Taiwan is seen by China as a part of its territory and President Xi Jinping of China has made it one of his stated goals to integrate Taiwan into the mainland.
Counterclaims have been made over the South China Sea by Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei.
