New Delhi, May 25: In the Chinese visa scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a PMLA complaint against Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, Bhaskararaman, and others on Wednesday (May 25). The economic probe agency has taken cognizance of the FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Karti and others will be summoned by the ED soon. On Wednesday, the Congress MP is expected to join the probe at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi. The CBI had earlier arrested Karti’s close friend S Bhaskar Raman in the case on May 17.
Earlier on Tuesday, Karti P Chidambaram claimed that he is not involved in the Visa case.
“I am heading back home today, as per the plan made when I left two weeks ago for UK and Europe. It does not intimidate me that the central government is once again using its agencies to accuse me of a malicious and completely fabricated charge,” he said.
Notably, Karti Chidambaram is accused of receiving Rs 50 lakh in exchange for fraudulently facilitating visas for 263 Chinese nationals to build a power project in Punjab.
The CBI claims that in 2011, the MP misused his power in the home ministry and conspired with a co-accused to design a back-door approach to defeat the purpose of the ministry’s work permit ceiling.
